What is Holistic Health Coaching?

Health Coach VS. Holistic Health Coach
A health coach’s primary purpose is to help their clients reach their healthiest lifestyle by 1) assessing their current health and lifestyle situations and 2) setting goals to develop their best health through both mind and body. From personal experience, I know that not every nutrition plan is right for everybody, nor is every physical activity. People’s lives are multi-faceted. Different aspects of their lives – home, relationships, work – affect them differently. This is why holistic health coaching is so essential. As a holistic health coach, I focus not only on nutrition and personal training but also on how your career, relationships, physical activity, and spirituality affect your health. Holistic health coaching takes all of your life and emotions into consideration, not just what you eat or do.
Bio-Individuality
Bio-individuality is the concept that each of us has unique food and lifestyle needs. It is one of the most fundamental ideas in holistic health coaching. Each of us has different anatomies, metabolisms, emotions, cravings, and stressors. This is why a one-size-fits-all diet or wellness plan does not work for most of us. For instance, some of us thrive more on a whole grain-based nutrition plan, while others do better on a high-quality, protein-rich nutrition plan. Even our blood type and ancestral background can come into play as to how our body metabolizes different foods.
The Integrative Nutrition Plate
The Integrative Nutrition Plate is also one of the main guiding factors in holistic health coaching. Primary foods are the base – or plate – of this concept. These are our relationships, career, spirituality, and physical activity – the lifestyle factors that fuel us as individuals where food does not. This plate is then topped off by secondary foods: local organic produce, whole grains, high-quality proteins, plant-based fats, and water. The emphasis on these is based not only on portion sizes and quality but also on what foods work best for each of us personally.
