Partner Spotlight: Bodymass Gym
By: Christine Bean
We recently sat down with Virginia Kinkel, owner of Bodymass Gym, to learn more about their science and results-driven training program, and how MightyMeals helps their members stay on-track once they leave the gym.
How did Bodymass Gym get its start?
Virginia: My husband Kris and I opened our first Bodymass Gym in 2016 in Arlington, VA. We met while working as trainers back in 2012 at Washington Sports Club. We worked there together for a year, started dating, and then both transferred over to Sports Club LA, which is now Equinox, in downtown D.C. for four years. Kris and I are both very driven people; even before we started dating, we connected because we were always on the same wavelength in terms of our drive and motivation. We always wanted to do more, push ourselves harder, and had big goals and aspirations. One day, we were talking with a commercial real estate broker, and he suggested that we open our own gym. This was something that we always wanted to do, and luckily we fell into the opportunity through a domino effect of talking to the right people. Before we knew it, we had found this awesome space in Arlington in the fall of 2015, and we opened the gym in January 2016. In September 2018, we opened our second Bodymass Gym location the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
What makes Bodymass Gym unique?
Virginia: We specialize in very traditional strength training and small group fitness classes. Our exercises are tried and true, and our classes are very small and personal, at ten people or less. We really aim to build a connection through one-on-one interaction with our members. I love that we are able to stay up-to-date with any injuries they have or talk about what’s going on in their personal life. We offer our members DEXA scans, resting metabolic rate testing, nutrition coaching, in-house physical therapy, and more. Our training programs are individualized and results-driven; we’re all about the science and proving that your efforts in the gym are really what is getting you the results. We want to help you achieve something, and we’ll give you the tools to get there. It’s not sexy, cool, and trendy workouts, but it’s what will get you the results that you’re looking for.
What connected you to MightyMeals?
Virginia: When we first opened, we received tons of emails and calls from businesses wanting to partner with us, but I was so overwhelmed and knew that some people were definitely getting lost in the mix. One of our members was raving about how the MightyMeals bulk items were life-saving for her weekly meal prep. I was about to email MightyMeals founder Dan Graziano for more information, when I realized that he had already emailed me weeks prior! Dan, Alex, and Stefano have major hustle, which I admire, because we have that “small business hustle,” too. Not a single person at Bodymass has ever had their MightyMeals order messed up, which is amazing. It’s inspiring to see such quality and care behind a product of a fellow local, small business.
How does MightyMeals benefit your members?
Virginia: MightyMeals ties into everything that we do. We are all about quality, and MightyMeals truly delivers in that aspect. When clients start with us, the first thing we have them do is a DEXA scan to assess their body composition, and the second thing we do is hand them a MightyMeals flier. They love that they can see the macro breakdown for each meal, and this really enables them to create a plan that can help them achieve their fitness and health goals. Our members also love that the meals are waiting here for them to pick-up whenthey come to class. It makes it easy for them to keep themselves in-check and know exactly what they should be eating, and there are no excuses when the MightyMeals fridge is right there on their way out the door! MightyMeals takes the guesswork out of it all; it’s become an integral part of our success and our clients’ success.
What is your favorite MightyMeals dish?
Virginia: My go-to is definitely the Basil Pesto Chicken & Orzo… but my guilty pleasure is the Grassfed Beef Lasagna. I dream about those crispy edges… it’s SO good!
